Jan Vikas Samiti Itasagar(JVSI)
Jamui was separated from Munger district as a district on 21 February 1991. Just after four years of its inception, Jan Vikas Samiti Itasagar, established in 1995, started working for Jamui’s development. In Bihar, Jamui emerges as the largest migrant sending district of the State. Lower level of urbanisation, joblessness, naxalism, lack of sustainable alternative job opportunities, landlessness, drought coupled with social backwardness in the district has made it the main out-migrating area. In this scheme of things this team sowed the seeds for Jan Vikas Samiti Itasagar(JVSI). Their primary aim was to act as a catalyst for change and bring about sustainable means of livelihood.
Started in its nascent stage, the organization today is blooming every day. Now we have a staff strength of approx. 90 people, who hail from different educational and cultural backgrounds. This aids the development of socio-cultural diversity in the organization. Most importantly, the varied education backgrounds help in designing different solutions/ interventions while covering all facets weaving around the initiative be it economic or technical etc.

Project Sehyog aims to support the people of Jamui by providing sustainable means of livelihood. You can support them too! Through our interventions, we aim to fulfil the community’s primary needs of food, medical aid and employment. We will create regional jobs by utilizing community resources using our existing programs for migrant workers who have returned from cities and also simultaneously deal with covid.
We will target all the families who have been fighting covid and provide them with Uncooked Rashaan Kits and medical equipment. Our main motive is to provide them with complete support in their fight with covid. Apart from covid patient’s families, we will also provide Uncooked Rashaan Kits for families who are landless, families who have lost their only earning member due to covid, and families comprising of only elderly people who do not have anyone to support them.
As part of our interventions, we will provide the following support while generating livelihood opportunities at the same time:
SEHYOG UNCOOKED RASHAN KIT
Ea ch Rashan kit will include 2 kg dal, 10kg potato and onion each, 2litres of cooking oil, 1kg salt, and 250 gm of spices (red chili and coriander each). This kit will be provided to 15000 families (approx. 90,000 people) in targeted six blocks. The cost per kit is INR1500/- and can feed family of five for approx. three weeks
Every component of these kits will be purchased from block specific Farmer- Producer organizations, which have been formed by JVSI. This will provide a platform to farmers for selling their produce.
For kits distribution, a team of migrant workers will be formed in each village of each block who will be paid for collecting, packaging and distributing these kits to targeted families.
SEHYOG MEDICAL KIT
This will comprise of reusable masks, oximeters and thermometers. 300 Kits will be formed per block (each containing 10,000 masks, 300oximetres and 300 thermometers) and will be given to covid families as and when needed.
A team will be formed comprising of migrant workers, who will be trained in distribution of these kits. These will be provided only to the families having covid test reports. The team members will be oriented in kit distribution using test reports and will be paid for same.
The motive of using report is to encourage people to get themselves tested. We are of the view that access to medical facility via test reports might act as a stimulant for people for getting tested.
MASKS PROGRAM
We aim to distribute 60,000 masks (10,000 masks per block) in our targeted area. This will be achieved by engaging women migrant workers. Team of women migrants will be formed and trained to produce regional masks.
JVSI has trained women in sewing. Teams of migrant workers in each panchayat of each block will be created which will be led by women already trained in sewing. These teams will create approx. 60,000 masks to be distributed across districts. The team members will be paid per mask.
EDUCATION KIT
Due to schools being shut in covid education too has been hampered. Through our initiative of Education kit we wish to provide some encouragement to children and cheer them! This will also be a source of livelihood for people of Jamui.
A complete production unit will be set up whereby workers will be trained in manufacturing pen and notebooks. We aim to distribute 60,000 education kits each comprising of 5 pen, 12 notebooks and some books. Workers will be paid per kit.
SEHYOG AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
We will run an extensive campaign for creating awareness around covid. JVSI also plans to run a helpline no. for community members which can be accessed by them for any query regarding covid.People from community will be employed for implementing every component.
To extend your help via Project Sehyog you can make donations both in cash and kind. Please come forward and extend a helping hand!
Livelihood in Livestock
As part of our covid Initiatives we will also support and strengthen already existing source of primary livelihood which is LIVESTOCK. For this we will provide livestock like goats, hen, fishes etc. which are being reared by community people. These will be provided in all villages in targeted blocks by JVSI.
To extend your help via Project Sehyog you can make donations both in cash and kind. Please come forward and extend a helping hand!
Educate India’s daughters
Education is a fundamental right for all children, but girls from impoverished, illiterate families are mostly denied this right in India. By the time they reach adolescence, 40% are out of school, kept at home doing household chores. Join Mission: Every Girl in School and support the education of thousands of girls. ₹600/month can make a huge difference to one girl's life.
Once you donate, we will send you the name and photo of the girl you are supporting as well as periodic progress reports about them.
Donate for a cause! Jamui has the maximum no. of migrant workers in Bihar. In these times of COVID all these workers have come back in search of food, shelter, livelihood and most important dignity! More than any other help they are looking for some sustainable livelihood opportunity to earn and support their families.
We at JVSI are trying to generate regional jobs which can act as means of sustenance for these workers. This will be done by channelizing the community resources via our existing programs. To know more about our initiative and donate for this cause follow us on Milaap.
